Booking: National Park Hike

Sat, 15 April 2017, 13:00 – 17:30

A moderate four-five hour hike in the Connemara National Park from the village of Letterfrack. Going beyond the Diamond Trail towards the uninhabited  Glanmore Valley, along the isolated Pooladirk river and climbing back up to the abandoned remains of a beautiful farm. Passing ancient pre-bog Scots Pine tree stumps, before visiting a megalithic (court) tomb and a spectacular wood (the wild garlic and bluebells may be flowering). Distance is about 10km with about 400m of total ascent. Terrain includes very rough open hillside with some steep ground and long grass. Requires strong boots with good ankle support and grip (preferably waterproof), outdoor layers, a good level of fitness along with food and water (available locally).  Cost is €55/person, with places available. The weather is generally showery and windy.
